One ‘Dancing with the Stars’ switch-up results in a ideal score

Can Paula prove she’s worthy of winning the coveted Mirror Ball trophy next week?

Carrie Ann: You are a naughty little, insane silver fox…That was your best dance ever!

Backstage, Paula is trying to flash Louis. (Is Lindsay insulted by his comments, I wonder?) Initially I’m thinking it’s backfiring and making Alek too nervous during the routine, but the rumba turns out to be graceful and sensual. On tonight’s episode the 9 couples danced to a different style of dance, including the Jive, Cha Cha and Tango.

A week after Bindi Took out breaths away with a touching tribute to her deceased father, she’s been paired with the DWTS’ steamy sexpot, Val.

Maks: It was filled with steps, but there was a disconnect.

Carrie Ann: I thought it was very sweet and sophisticated. There is so much positivity coming out of you … Meanwhile, Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough scored the highest points. The judges understandably went wild and said it was her best dance to date.

Scores: Carrie Ann: 8, Julianne: 8, Maksim 7, Bruno: 7, total: 31 out of 40. Carrie Ann compliments Bindi on the trust she has in her partners, and says she showed a new level of flair.

Julianne: She offers advice on where to improve.

Howdy, new partner! Carlos and Lindsay quickstepped to Bossa Nova Baby right into the judges hearts.

Lindsay is just a light little bit of merriment, she’s just what Carlos needed, and I loved the fast fun of his Quickstep. However, Bruno said, “It had a wonderful rock and roll feel”. Bruno Tonioli said he saw a complete metamorphosis, and guest judge Maks praised her for getting out of her head and letting herself shine like the leading lady she is. This is the toughest routine for Tamar to date; he’s pushing her as much as he would push a pro like Karina. (Free publicity for the upcoming Hunger Games movie, perhaps?) It’s dark and disturbing, and a side of Alexa we’ve never seen before – in a good way.

Carrie Ann gives her a standing ovation and then says it was a great paso doble. Julianne calls Alexa a “raw vixen”.

Paula has more than outstayed her welcome and as the last of the Cannon Fodder from the first week needs to go.

Andy and Sharna dance an Argentine Tango for their “Switch Up” dance. And, for the second half of the dance, he finally embraces that “selling the performance” technique that Sharna was coaching him on. We feel like there are two things working in her favor. What’s that saying about laws and sausages?

Julianne: Musicality, the footwork…nailed it! Too low. Not fair at all, for the amount of great dancing she did.

Aw, man, there’s a spin where Witney definitely didn’t keep her feet on the floor the whole time. Each season, his best dances have been tangos, and once again he presented a dance that was thrilling and powerful to watch.

This week, we get a partner swap-a-roo as “The Switchup” shifts celeb and pro pairings for a one-night only engagement. Carrie Ann’s going to have to play “Lift Police”. Tom memorialized his dad in the caption, writing, “At my wedding and in my life, The Best Man. RIP”.
