‘Mad Max’ Sequel: No Charlize?

Thankfully for fans and critics, it appears as though the balance will be addressed in the next Mad Max movie which, according to what creator and director Miller said recently to Coming Soon, will not feature Furiosa… He only hinted at a brief appearance for the breakout character from Fury Road. The character was a huge hit with fans and general audiences, and yet, there may be no Furiosa in the Mad Max sequel. Clearly though there is more story surrounding the character yet to be told, at an earlier stage in the interview Miller is asked how she lost her arm, to which he responds “it’s a long story”. After hearing Miller’s latest statement about Furiosa’s involvement, the second sequel now sounds a little doubtful.

“I’m not sure, is the answer, ‘ he said when questioned about the actress” involvement.

As the director says, these films are still works in progress, so a lot could change by the time these movies are made.

I’m sad to hear Charlize Theron won’t be returning for another star turn, but I can understand that the other Mad Max films would revolve around the titular hero – and Max may well meet other cool characters along the way. We’re about to release it the world, and that’s scary. That’s just my own fanfic there, but I really find it hard to believe she’s simply going to be relegated to the sidelines moving forward. “We’re talking to the studio [Warner Bros] about it as we speak, but which one of the two stories will happen next, I’m not so sure”. But someone who won’t be returning is – deep breaths – Furiosa.

So at the moment it’s looking likely that the next Max chapter will focus just on Hardy, which might actually give us a better chance to get to know him as he was in the background for much of Fury Road. Now, George Miller seems to have bad news for Furiosa fans.
