North Carolina DMV upgrades to reduce waiting times
The improvement is part of the governor’s “Driving Change” initiative which is focused on improving customer service at the DMV through technology and increased efficiencies.

If customers must make a trip to state-run DMV offices, they can visit dmv.ny.gov to make a reservation.
The NCDMV also will accept credit and debit payments in its offices for the first time. In Arlington the average wait time is 47 minutes, compared to 24 minutes statewide.
In June, the state Division of Motor Vehicles quietly began allowing people to renew their driver’s licenses online. Garner’s quote “unofficial mayor” – American Idol victor, country singer and Garner native Scotty McCreery – was also on hand for the announcement.
Drivers across North Carolina will now be able to renew licenses online up to six months before its expiration date. License renewals are good for eight years for drivers age 18 to 65, and five years for others.
Self-service online kiosks coming to offices also will mean fewer people having to wait.
DMV says online renewal is not an option – and an office visit is still required – for new licenses, commercial licenses, drivers with medical or other restrictions other than corrective lenses, and drivers whose licenses are suspended or revoked. Conventional adult drivers also will have to go in person the next time after an online renewal, DMV said.
McCrory also scheduled a similar event in Asheville later Monday, the same day that Attorney General Roy Cooper, a Democrat, announced his bid to unseat him in 2016.
Another new feature at the DMV will include greeters who will assist customers from the time they walk into the office.
