The German Chancellor is expected to convey problems faced by German industries in proceeding with planned investments. “The two leaders will address these issues definitely in a friendly manner”, the German envoy said earlier. The resumption of a stalled India-EU free trade agreement is likely to be one point of discussion.
The two leaders will hold wide-ranging talks tomorrow to significantly scale up bilateral relations in an array of key sectors with special focus on boosting trade, security and defence ties.
India and Germany signed 18 MoUs from Renewable Energy to Skill Development and Culture post the working lunch that PM Narendra Modi hosted for German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The victor of the prestigious award will be announced by the Norwegian Nobel Committee next Friday. The German Chancellor will also call on President Pranab Mukherjee and meet External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today.
They will also exchange views on regional and global issues of common concern.
After the bilateral talks, the plenary session as the core format of the IGC will take place.
“That’s particularly true of Syria, where we have all known for years that there can only be a solution with Russian and not without Russia”, Merkel said at speech in eastern Germany to mark the upcoming 25th anniversary of German reunification.
“The prospects are huge because India is just beginning its long spurt for growth”, Kant told a business round table.

The understanding will be operationalised, in India through a collaboration between the Max Mueller Bhavan and the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and in Germany through nodal agencies to be identified shortly.
