Nadiya was on the show to chat about winning the BBC One baking competition when she revealed it was Mrs. Marshall who had inspired her to cook and bake whilst at school.

The 30-year-old from Leeds was visibly shocked when she was reunited with her home economics teacher, Jean Marshall, during an interview on ITV’s This Morning.

“We never baked in our family, dessert isn’t something that we ever had, and not something that’s common in our culture so we never had desserts”, said Nadiya. ‘But when I started doing food studies at GCSE, I was like “Oh my goodness, this is what an oven is for – not just storage”. I remember that, ‘ the GBBO champ insisted.

Mrs Marshall said Nadiya’s win was “absolutely amazing”, before she added: “I am so proud, and delighted and thrilled”. “I never baked at home”.

Hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby then surprised Nadiya by saying “Well shall we find out?” Luckily, none of those happened to Nadiya, who actually found herself becoming a role-model, and not just for her glorious piping skills! “You’ll go quietly under the radar and be booted off week three I assumed, that was my guess”.

Nadiya also spoke about taking part in The Great British Bake Off and confessed: “I never felt like I could do this”. ‘We concentrated on English cookery’. “I didn’t think I would be in final 12”. That’s what I’ve got in my book. So it is possible that we did rough puff or something’.

Whoa whoa whoa, Nadiya once used bought pastry?! The process was quite unlikely to me. “Sheer perfection and I enjoyed every minute”.

When Nadiya Hussain won the Great British Bake Off, it was an emotional affair. Her victory even left Mary Berry on the verge of tears. “That’s a fantastic thing”. After trying a bite she declared: ‘Wonderfully moist!’ I’m never going to say “I don’t think I can”. “I can do it”…I can do anything that I set my mind to”.

‘I just kind of applied to pacify my husband.

The stay-at-home mum had to go to extreme lengths to keep her triumph a secret, since June. “So it was inside five suitcases under my bed so that nobody saw it!”
