“We haven’t got a lot of information to work on at the moment so we’re just working through all sorts of possibilities to try to get a result as quickly as possible”. “So we will now be reporting this matter to the coroner and continue our investigation to identify this person”.

The death is still being treated as unexplained at this stage.

No further comment is expected today. The covered body was later taken on a stretcher to a waiting hearse.

Police cordon tape has since been taken down.

In January 2012, a body was also found at Kuirau Park.

The area was cordoned off and police, including search and rescue staff, worked with fire crews and Rotorua Lakes Council to formulate a recovery plan.

Police later said the body of an adult was recovered.

He said due to the extreme temperature of the pool recovery will be very hard and unsafe. “But also doing it in such a way to give dignity to the person there… we actually contacted local iwi and there has been a blessing at the site so all those protocols have been covered”, he said.

Emergency services are at Kuirau Park where a body has been found.

Firefighters have removed the ladders from the trucks.

Earlier police had said getting the body out would be a hard task.

The park has a number of fenced-off hot pools.

Police and fire at the scene.

Media enquiries should be referred to Communications Manager Kim Perks on 027 234 8256.

“A member of the public has phoned us having seen something in the mud pools”.
