Jorge Soler, Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber connected as the Cubs set a postseason mark with six home runs in beating the St. Louis Cardinals 8-6 Monday for a 2-1 lead in the N.L. Division Series.

Jason Heyward and the St. Louis Cardinals did exactly what they wanted to do against Jake Arrieta.

“Hopefully this is just a taste of what’s about to come”, Rizzo said. “Hopefully, this is just a taste of what’s to come”.

“When we hit home runs, we think we got a big chance to win”, he said.

The Blue Jays continued their series’ road dominance with an 8-4 win over host Texas on Monday. They beat Atlanta in the NLDS that year, but then lost in seven games to the Marlins.

The Cubs will next face either the New York Mets or the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Championship Series which is scheduled to start on Saturday.

The Astros took a 6-2 lead into the eighth, but a tough error charged to 21-year-old rookie shortstop Carlos Correa keyed the Royals’ rally in Game 4 of their AL Division Series. The Cardinals, who led the majors by winning 100 games this season, have won at least one playoff series in each of the last four years.

The banged-up Cardinals had reached the NLCS in the last four years. New York followed with two runs in the third inning, four in the fourth and three in the seventh to take a 13-4 lead. The ball seemed to disappear, possibly clearing the videoboard in right or hitting the Budweiser sign above it.

Cardinals starter Michael Wacha (L: 0-1, 8.31) allowed four earned runs on six hits (three home runs) in 4 1/3 innings.

Again, the Cubs’ offense responded. Both walks scored in the fourth. On Monday, Arrieta gave up five hits while walking two and striking out nine.

It was a helluva thing to watch-Trevor Cahill!

Among the many problems facing St. Louis, against the wall down 2-1 in their series with the Cubs, is how to stop the boy from Havana. The series is the first-ever postseason meeting between the teams….

St. Louis tied the game at 4 in the sixth.

Even Wainwright got into the act, serving up Soler’s two-run shot in the sixth on a cutter that was supposed to be down and away.

Utley, however, did not play in Game 3. Tony Cruz, the Cards’ backup catcher, did catch Lackey a lot during the season. The powerful infielder replaced Addison Russell in the starting lineup, who is dealing with a tight hamstring.

In any case, Maddon knows the Cardinals will be hard to eliminate.

Maddon did give himself a few insurance in the batting order with Baez’s inclusion, however, as he shifted Baez to the ninth spot.
