This is the first picture of mum Jayne Hickey blasted in the legs alongside her seven-year-old son on the doorstep of their home as police warn gun gangs involved “enough is enough”.

Detective Superintendent Joanne Rawlinson said: ‘This is a truly shocking set of circumstances in which a young boy and a woman have been injured after they were shot at by a gunman at their home.

Massey, who was given a 10-year jail sentence for a knife attack in 1999, repeatedly denied he was involved in organised crime despite earning the nickname “Salford’s Mr Big”.

He said: “We have said all along that these tit-for-tat feuds between the criminal factions in Salford have the potential to harm and even kill innocent people”. But what I can say is that it’s got all the hallmarks of a feud over disrespect.

Both victims are said to be in “serious but stable” condition in hospital following the attack.

Jayne Hickey and her young son are believed to have gone to their front door to be confronted by two men looking for someone else.

‘These incidents often start not necessarily over drugs but over a degree of disrespect shown to each other’. One man is described as “white and chunky” with slow speech and stubble.

He was shot outside his home in Salford on 26 July by a lone gunman wearing military-style clothes.

Last night a £50,000 reward for information about his death was put up during an appeal on BBC TV’s Crimewatch programme.

Speaking at a news conference, Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said gun crime was “absolutely not” out of control in the city.

“A separate and unconnected feud is simultaneously taking place between groups in the Little Hulton area, which has been responsible for a number of firearms incidents, including the ones seen over the weekend in Little Hulton and Farnworth”.

GMP are tackling the situation by issuing threat of life warnings to those people deemed to be at risk; disrupting organised crime gangs by arresting their members; and carrying out “complex” investigations into the shootings and Mr Massey’s murder.

‘This incident has only just happened, but there is a huge police effort underway to investigate this attack and find those responsible.

He said: “I think it is a matter of fact that the police have been hampered by the silence coming from those who know in the past”.

The detective added: “The offender fired a series of shots at Paul and left the same way he came”.

Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd also urged local people with any information to come forward.
