Kompany fit to play for Belgium on Tuesday

Kompany has missed City’s last five games with a calf injury but was called up to the Belgium squad for their final two qualifiers, and has trained with the team, despite Manuel Pellegrini’s insistence that he is not yet fit. I think it will be good for City if Kompany gets a few match time.

“I’ve not been in contact with Man City myself, but the club are kept up to date with developments”, said Wilmots. “I don’t see any problem if he feels okay”.

Despite Pellegrini’s warning about selecting Kompany, however, Wilmots insists he will not be influenced by the wishes of club managers and admitted that he has not spoken with the Chilean, or any other City official, about Kompany’s fitness.

Despite being told by Pellegrini not to risk his star centre-back, Wilmots recently revealed that Kompany is fit and could feature in the upcoming clash against Israel.

“I think he’s good right now”.

The national team will have to beat group leader Belgium in Brussels in its final Group B match on Tuesday to have any chance of finishing in the all-important third place after Jason Demetriou gave the Cypriots a stunning 2-1 win at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem. “He has worked hard in training and knows his own body well”. Vincent has to prove he’s okay to play, then I have a choice to make.

Wales’ short spell in the top 10 will come to an end next month, with the best position they can hope for being 12th – though they are likely to drop further than that once all games have been played.

City face an anxious wait over Kompany’s ability to avoid further injury while playing for Belgium, with the current worldwide break proving disastrous for the Premier League leaders.

Aleksandar Kolarov also looked to be carrying a knock prior to getting sent off in Serbia’s bad tempered fixture with Portugal.
