Michel Platini: Uefa president appeals against 90-day Federation Internationale de Football Association ban

Valcke, who had already been placed on leave by Blatter after being linked to a ticket touting scheme last month, was also banned for 90 days. The CSF, considering the above, believes that the ban is untimely and disproportionate.

The Confederation of African Football says Issa Hayatou’s kidney illness will not prevent him from carrying out his full duties as acting FIFA president.

He received a reprimand from the global Olympic Committee in 2011 over allegations that he took money from the worldwide Sport and Leisure (ISL) marketing company.

The International Olympic Committee said such an action constituted a conflict of interest.

Blatter and Platini have both denied any impropriety, and said the payment relates to advisory work carried out by Platini from 1999 to 2002. His ban would nearly certainly render him ineligible to run unless he overturns it before a candidacy deadline of October 26.

“Platini claims it’s a fix, but if they decide he has behaved improperly we will not support him”. At the same time the presumption of innocence is a fundamental right that has to be considered.

Platini issued a personal statement, through UEFA’s media department, saying he was motivated by a “profound feeling of staunch defiance”.

“I agree that Blatter has made errors”.

UEFA’s 54 members, who are due to meet on Thursday in Nyon, Switzerland, are still backing Platini.

Platini said he had submitted his nomination papers for the election before being suspended.

Bach called for Fifa to look at choosing a new president “of high integrity” from outside of football.

Platini, the English Football Association’s preferred candidate in the election to replace Blatter, will contest the ban “in the appropriate manner at the appropriate time”.

Two sources with knowledge of the discussions told Reuters that a postponement of the election was being discussed within Federation Internationale de Football Association and its member organisations.

Platini released a strongly-worded statement on Thursday in response to his suspension. He denies any wrongdoing.

South America’s football body has denounced the banning of UEFA president Michel Platini.

Blatter’s U.S.-based lawyer Richard Cullen didn’t respond to an email for comment.

Dyke added that if there was any finding of wrongdoing by the investigations into the bids for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups he was convinced there would have to be a re-vote.

Platini, who is also the head of UEFA, swiftly indicated his intention to appeal and Blatter has now followed suit.
