According to South American media, Diego Maradona has finally decided to step up to the plate and fight the election for FIFA’s presidency.

If Diego Maradona is serious about running for the FIFA presidency, he still has a lot of work to do just to get on the ballot.
Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro earlier this month suggested Maradona become the next president of football’s world governing body, which is being investigated by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation and Swiss authorities for alleged corruption.
Blatter – who defiantly stood for reelection in May even as several FIFA officials were indicted for bribery and money laundering, and was voted to fifth four-year term – finally caved in to pressure, calling for extraordinary congress to elect a successor.
Morales tweeted: ‘I called Diego Maradona to check on his father’s [health].
Maradona’s desire to run for FIFA’s top job was reported by Victor Hugo Morales, a journalist close to the retired great.
Despite his incredible talent on the pitch during his career which saw him win a World Cup title and numerous accolades with clubs including Barcelona, Napoli and Boca Juniors, Maradona, 54, has suffered many issues off the pitch including, but not limited to, substance abuse, tax evasion and multiple health issues.
One of the favourites is current UEFA chief and iconic ex- France midfielder, Michel Platini, who lead the anti-Blatter vote at the last election and is a strong favourite to be the next FIFA president.

“We have a dictator for life”. Only two other people aside from Maradona have expressed interest in the position: ex- Brazil standout Zico and Liberian Football Association Chairman Musa Bility.
