It is part of a series of Labor Day weekend season openers at the home of the NFL’s Cowboys.

Auburn has yet to play in the massive, state-of-the-art football stadium. Big on-campus games are what make the sport special, but big money and a desire not to miss the College Football Playoff means these neutral-site games are probably going to stick around.

The 2019 game will be the second-ever meeting between Auburn and Oregon, and the first in the regular season.

Assuming these two programs still run similar styles in 2019, this could be a highly explosive offensive matchup.

“An invitation to participate on a stage likes this speaks to the reputation Oregon football has earned, and we’re excited to be part of such a prestigious matchup”, Oregon Athletic Director Rob Mullens said in a statement. Michigan and Florida will face off in 2017, and LSU and Miami play in 2018. This is the first time Auburn will play in AT&T Stadium and the AdvoCare Classic. “They always travel in masses to support our program, so this is a great reward for them as well”. The only other matchup between the two was the 2010-11 BCS National Championship at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., where the Tigers downed the Ducks, 22-19.

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn and Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich both were the offensive coordinators at their respective schools during 2011’s duel in the desert. UO officials expect to complete the nonconference slate with another home date, against an opponent from the Football Championship Subdivision. Details on ticket sales are to be announced, as is the TV schedule. The Tigers and Ducks have advanced to the national championship game two times since 2010.
