Facebook to replace ‘like’ button with emotional reactions

To use the new reaction buttons that offer more than a like, you simply long-press the like button until the six reactions pop up, and you select what you’re going for.

Facebook users all over Ireland and Spain are already testing the new set where instead of just sending a thumbs up, they can also express love, laughter, happiness, amazement, sadness, and anger.

About a month ago, Mark Zuckerberg announced that a possible “dislike” button was coming to Facebook, immediately sending the Internet into a frenzy.

How is your day so far?

These new emojis fit that model.

The general populace of Facebook has always been demanding the “Unlike” option for the posts and statuses.

“We see this as an opportunity for businesses and publishers to better understand how people are responding to their content on Facebook”.

To decide on how to implement reactions, he combined sociologists’ feedback with data showing what people do on Facebook.

“Hearts were everywhere”, Mosseri told Bloomberg.

Inside sources added that the new feature won’t be a simple thumbs-down – which would cause a lot of negativity to flood the network – but something that would allow users to show empathy.

In other situations, a user may post photos of a funeral or even a grave of a loved one.

Social media, in general, has been linked to similar issues.

What Zuckerberg refers to are posts that are meant to be about sad moments. They want to see themselves.

And at this point we should mention that users from their side too, have been wanting that for quite a few time, hence the large request for the dislike button. “Often, in fact, it seems like there is no real objective behind their comments except to upset everyone else involved”. With Facebook being accessed more and more on mobile devices it only made sense to introduce a range of emotive responses that could sustain and increase interaction on the social media platform. “There is a great difference, for instance, between posting a dozen selfies at a rooftop party versus linking to a charity’s donation page and writing a personal statement about the cause”. With Reactions, Facebook will allow its users to react in multiple ways, rather than just up and down votes like YouTube, Reddit and other sites. Women in the study, though, showed higher levels of empathy overall. It was about time that Facebook did something about it. “But Facebook can break down those boundaries”.

Facebook has finally introduced its answer to people’s appeal for a 'dislike&#039 button in the form of six new emojis called 'Reactions.&#039
