Additionally, Kevin Mayer has been named chief strategy officer.

BURBANK, Calif. (AP) – Disney named its treasurer, Christine McCarthy, as its new chief financial officer, replacing Jay Rasulo, a longtime executive who announced he was resigning earlier this month after it became apparent he wouldn’t likely be elevated to CEO. He will be responsible for overseeing corporate strategy, business development and acquisitions, among other things.

Iger said Tuesday that Mayer played “an integral role in our successful acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm”.

Rasulo’s departure from Disney closely followed Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Thomas Staggs being named Disney COO – and thereby becoming the likely successor of Iger when he retires.

Mayer will jointly report to Iger and Staggs. As CFO, she will report to Iger.

McCarthy, 60, begins her tenure as CFO effective immediately, Disney said in a statement. Among her team’s responsibilities were corporate finance, capital markets, financial risk, worldwide treasury and investments, credit, and risk management. “Under Bob’s leadership, Disney has delivered record results, and I look forward to working with our talented senior management team as we build on the company’s financial strength and strong balance sheet to deliver shareholder value”.

She received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Smith College and later earned an MBA in marketing and finance from the Anderson School at UCLA.
