ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – As far as wins go, this had to be classified as one of the better ones of the season for the Red Sox. “But since I am here, I do not make those decisions, so I have to take advantage”. Sandoval also increased his multi-hit game total to 21, claiming the home run and a single. Center fielder Mookie Betts witnessed his 13-game hitting streak come to a close. Logan Forsythe eventually broke up the latter bid with an infield single, but Brandon Gomes served up the deciding home run to Chris Colabello in the 12th. “You’ve still got to go out there and put up zeroes”.

Red Sox: LF Hanley Ramirez (left hand) missed his second straight game and is day to day. The 24-year-old gave up two runs, both earned, on two hits while recording just one out. “I’ve been consistent”, Masterson said. “That was the main thing”.

Alejandro De Aza and Jackie Bradley Jr. each drove in a run in the second inning for Boston, which took a 2-0 lead early.

David DeJesus made his first start against a left-handed pitchers since August 2, 2013 while a member of the Chicago Cubs against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Masterson struggled with reduced velocity over his first seven starts and was rocked for six runs on as many hits in 2 1/3 innings on May 12 at Oakland before hitting the disabled list. He allowed five hits while walking nobody and striking out six.

“We have a lot of trust in our bullpen”, Andriese said. “It’s certainly been a frustrating stretch but this is a positive start but I hope from here to keep getting better and get back to the right track”.

The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays play a rubber game Sunday afternoon.

Sizemore, a three-time All-Star in Cleveland, had three hits in his Rays debut including a double off the right field wall in the ninth. The left-hander had thrown 16 scoreless innings at Tropicana Field and didn’t have the sense the two-run homer would be enough to beat him.

Rays: RHP Jake Odorizzi (oblique) threw 51 pitches in batting practice and could make a minor league start Thursday….

Longoria hit one of his two homers off Masterson in that game and is 8 for 25 lifetime in this matchup. Boston hit five in the season opener in Philadelphia.

Boston held a 3-1 lead over Tampa more than midway through Friday night’s contest, but a pair of runs in the home half of the sixth inning knotted the score at 3-3. Napoli was not given a stolen base on the play.

– Napoli was ejected for the fourth time this season after fanning via called third strike in the second inning.

The Boston Red Sox, according to Gordon Edes of ESPN, have recalled relief pitcher Matt Barnes and sent infielder Travis Shaw back to Pawtucket.
