Vincent Kompany ‘proud’ of Belgium’s achievements
The central defender hasn’t featured for City since limping out of their defeat at the hands of Italian champions Juventus in the UEFA Champions League, and Belgium boss Marc Wilmots went against the wishes of Manuel Pellegrini to pick Kompany as captain at the heart of his defence, leading the hosts to a 3-1 win.

Kompany has been an essential figure in the excellent start to the season for Manchester City but has missed their last three Premier League matches due to a calf injury.
“I think Kompany is ready”.
“Vincent is fit, but we’ll wait [on] the outcome of the training to decide if he will play”, he said. Belgium is getting a rankings bump because it’s now qualifying for a tournament that includes traditional powers such as Germany, Spain, England and Italy even though it won’t actually play powers like Germany, Spain, England and Italy until Euro 2016 actually begins next June.
“I think he’s good right now”.
Despite being told by Pellegrini not to risk his star centre-back, Wilmots recently revealed that Kompany is fit and could feature in the upcoming clash against Israel. The national team have a list of the players that play for them and they have, in the global break, the authority to use them.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne is hoping to improve on his performances for his club when he is more settled in Manchester.
It also seems that the 29-year-old’s club haven’t been kept in the loop either, with Wilmots adding, “There’s been no contact with Manchester City”. “There’s one more practice before the match – Vincent has to prove he’s okay to play, then I have a choice to make”.

Pellegrini has seen Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov all struck down with injuries during the worldwide break.
