Christie’s approval ratings stay low, poll shows
During a gathering in New Hampshire on Monday, Christie met with a group of voters from both sides of the aisle who are angry with the dysfunction in Washington D.C. Christie said being governor of a state like New Jersey, which has long had a Democratic-controlled Legislature, has given him the experience he needs to end partisan gridlock in Washington. Only 35 percent of voters have a favorable opinion of Christie and 39 percent give him a favorable job rating.

According to the new poll, Christie flops on a top issue for New Jersey voters: Taxes.
“Christie recently had a solid GOP debate performance and scored a few major Iowa donors for his presidential campaign, but things have yet to significantly pick up for him back home”, said Ashley Koning, assistant director of the Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling at Rutgers University. According to reports out of the forum, the New Jersey governor says he doesn’t really think about the issue that much, but if he did, he’d probably oppose it.
Twenty-five percent of voters approve of Christie on taxes, while 66 percent disapprove, the poll said.
The New Jersey governor mocked the political press’ focus on the race to succeed Boehner, lamenting that nothing gets done in Congress whether a Republican or a Democrat serves as Speaker. This is a complete reversal from two years ago, with such strong negativity not felt since October 2009.
On other subjects, voters rate Christie’s performance on crime and drugs with 38 percent approval, 44 percent disapproval; the economy and jobs, 31 percent approval, 58 percent disapproval; and the state budget, 29 percent approval, 59 percent disapproval.

The poll of 935 people was conducted from Oct. 3 to Oct. 10. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
