The engine quit before he could land at the Boise Airport.
Traffic is slowing and backing up in the area.
“Seven-three-mike, I’m on the freeway”, the pilot says.
State police said two right lanes of the eastbound interstate were blocked for two hours, during which time the plane was removed from the roadway. ‘He just made a mistake and forgot to switch fuel tanks.
The 30-year-old pilot from Westminster, Colorado, later told authorities he was unable to engage the landing gear when the aircraft experienced what he believed to be engine failure, Idaho troopers said. The flight was carrying freight from Spokane.
“This was probably his best choice”, said Santiago Guerricabeitia of the Idaho Transportation Department’s Division of Aeronautics.
The aircraft, a T210K Cessna, is a fixed wing, single engine airplane, and is registered to a Boise pilot, according to FAA online records. Patrick declined to say what kind of freight was aboard the craft or name the pilot.
