Police attended and cordoned off a large section of the Kuirau Park, opposite Rotorua Hospital.
Police and firefighters had to carefully plan a recovery of the man’s body, which took a few time due to the scorching temperature of the pool.
In a statement released this morning, Police say they are not yet able to confirm the man’s identity and don’t expect to be able to do so until Thursday.
The death is still being treated as unexplained.
Emergency services are at Kuirau Park where a body has been found.
It would be done “in such a way that we can keep the dignity of the person in there”, Mr Horne said.
The park scene has been blessed and the park has now re-opened.
Rotorua’s Deputy Mayor says it’s impossible to fence off all geothermal features in the city.
Toromon Falaile Toromon, of Hamilton, slipped off a low rock wall around a mud pool in Kuirau Park, Rotorua, on Boxing Day 2010.
“Regarding further evaluations of those standards, council are co-operating with the police and coroner’s enquiry and serious consideration will be given to any recommendations that may emanate from that process”.
In 2011 a Rotorua 12-year-old girl who fell into a steaming Rotorua hot mudpool had skin peeled from her legs by the intense heat.
