Palestinian attacks officer with knife, is shot dead

Ashraf al-Kidra, a Health Ministry spokesman in Gaza, said a home in southern Gaza was struck, killing 30-year-old Noor Hassan and her 2-year-old daughter. He said four other Palestinians were wounded, included Hassan’s husband and son.

Israeli police say a Palestinian woman has lightly wounded a police officer in a stabbing attack in Jerusalem.

Border police officers were suspicious of a man walking with his hands in his pockets and asked him to stop and take them out, Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri said.

A Palestinian teenager has been shot dead by Israeli forces during a clash at a checkpoint north of the West Bank city of Ramallah, the Palestinian health ministry says.

The Israeli army spokesperson was not immediately available for a comment. One day earlier, the gates of Jerusalem’s Old City, sacred to three world religions, became the latest flashpoint for growing violence as Israeli police killed two Palestinians who stabbed officers and others Saturday, authorities said.

Netanyahu also singled out an Arab lawmaker, Hanin Zoabi, who the premier said called on hundreds of thousands of worshippers to ascend to the site to prevent an “Israeli plot of bloodletting of East Jerusalem residents”.

The attack took place in Pisgat Zeev, a Jewish settlement in traditionally Arab east Jerusalem, which Israel seized in the 1967 war and annexed shortly thereafter.

At least 20 Palestinian students were also injured, eight by live ammunition, near the Khaddoury College, located in the West Bank city of Tulkarem.

Violence has exploded throughout Israel and the Palestinian territories in the wake of recent restrictions by the Israeli government on the site that Jews call the Temple Mount. The attacker was shot dead by other officers. There have also been multiple protests inside Israel from the country’s own Arab population, with masked demonstrators clashing with police forces.

At the start of the month, two Israelis were killed in a West Bank shooting attack and two Israelis were stabbed to death in Jerusalem.

A Palestinian man attacked an Israeli officer with a knife Monday at the entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City and was shot dead by police, Israeli police said. An Israeli motorist was previously killed when his auto was pelted with stones on the eve of the Jewish New Year.

Israel’s Shin Bet internal security agency identified the perpetrator as 20-year-old Alla Zayud from the northern town of Umm el-Fahm. Israa Ayed, 29, was critically injured.

He has promised, too, to make broader use of detention without trial for suspects, even though Palestinian hunger strikes have proven to be one of the most effective non-violent tools for challenging this inhumane and illegal policy.
