The Fairfield Fire Department gave away smoke detectors on Saturday to Fairfield residents in need at its open house while supplies lasted. The Catoosa Fire Department – along with Oak Grove and Rolling Hills Fire Departments – worked with volunteers in Catoosa. NFPA research further indicates that working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a fire in half.
“I want them in every house, no matter who you are, where you live”, he said. At a minimum, put one on every level of the home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas.
“Typically a family has only two minutes to leave their home once a fire alarm is sound, so it’s really important family’s know what to do when they hear the beep”, Maria Devlin said.

“In honor of the fire marshal’s 100th anniversary and the end of national fire prevention week, fire stations have been challenged to install smoke alarms”. Meanwhile, they hope that “civic hackers” join in the effort as well and encourage people with fire incident data to contribute to their open-sourced site.
