Yakima Police Warn of IRS Scam Going Around
One county resident was recently scammed out of $85,000. The IRS says you can also notify the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484. Those who refuse to pay immediately are then threatened by the “IRS agents”.

According to Brandon Presley, who serves as the Public Service Commissioner for DeSoto County and the Northern District of Mississippi, the victim will receive a call from someone who claims to be from the IRS. And this complex scam goes even further.
Yakima police say this is not how the IRS operate, and to not fall for this.
Suspects are warning the victims that they owe back taxes and that there are serious potential consequences if the debt is not paid immediately with a wire transfer.
Barb Grieman, senior vice president of the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota, said the scam, which comes up periodically, involves scammers calling victims using technology to make it appear as if the call is coming from the IRS.
-Be skeptical of what a caller claims he or she can do if you refuse to meet their demand. If you have questions, call the IRS directly from the number on their website.

Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann says in the case of the recent local fraud incident, the caller ID numbers came up as the numbers from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department and the Internal Revenue Service in calls placed by the scammer.
