KRON has obtained slow-motion video that has surfaced, showing the shark spotted off Alcatraz Island preying on a sea lion Saturday. The shark’s attack on seal filled the water with blood, and soon the shark seeped back into the ocean.

“It’s Jaws! It’s Jaws!” bellowed an unseen boy beside tourist Meredith Coppolo Shindler who videoed the scene from an overhead dock.

Keaton says they went to an aquarium later that day and an employee confirmed with them, it was in fact a Great White Shark.

At least 15 great whites, including an 18-footer, were seen in June in and around Monterey Bay near popular spots for paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming and fishing.

“For me, it’s pretty exciting and a sign that health is returning to the San Francisco Bay ecosystem”, said McGuire, adding that more than 80 swimmers from the Dolphin Club and South End Rowing Club swam from Alcatraz last week without a single shark encounter. They have been sighted this year in Monterey Bay and in a few other places off the coast of San Francisco, and they come to the Farallon Islands around September-October to feed every year. McGuire said the shark attack was good news for him. Most shark attacks are mistaken identity, he said.

The stunning images of the Great White sharks were taken in the Pacific Ocean near Guadalupe Island, Mexico. “It’s the furthest north white shark pups have ever been documented”. A study from researchers at Stanford in 2009 tracked several great whites in the bay.
