Pepsi to market its own brand of phones in China

The Pepsi smartphone, dubbed Pepsi P1 will be manufactured by one of the Chinese companies that delivers such devices. It makes little sense for Pepsi to infiltrate the mobile phone market heavily dominated by players like Apple and Samsung.

Speaking to Reuters, a company spokeswoman said Pepsi will release its first mobile products in the coming months.

The mobile phones under Pepsi brand will initially be available in China market only.

If the leak is indeed correct, this means that the company is supposed to reveal all the details about their upcoming product as early as October 20. In keeping with its previous model, the Pepsi P1 smartphone will be sold at approximately $200 and will be provided with a few of the most advanced features at present. According to reports, Pepsi’s new smartphone, dubbed the Pepsi P1, will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display and will be powered by a MediaTek processor clocked at 1.7 GHz, paired with 2 GB of RAM.

“But we are committed to engaging with Chinese consumers at this point of connectivity, and in innovative ways, to grow our brand”, it said.

For its OS, it is said to come with the Android 5.1 Lollipop, as mentioned by GSM Arena.

Huawei’s iconic Emotional UI (EMUI) seems to be running on the phone, albeit with a Pepsi-inspired theme. PepsiCo had previously partnered with Danish electronics company Bang & Olufsen and Italian shoemaker Del Toro shoes for accessories and apparel. The fingerprint scanner isn’t missing either, while the 3000 mAh battery should provide enough juice for a full day of intensive use. China-based Shenzhen Technology Co. will likely manufacture the device that will bear Pepsi’s logo, the website says. Pepsi is apparently venturing into the tech world with a Smartphone.
