A court in Egypt has ordered the release from prison of the sons of the country’s former president Hosni Mubarak, taking into account the time they have already served.

Gamal and Alaa Mubarak were previously released in January after their convictions in the presidential palaces case were temporarily overturned.
Gamal Mubarak had always been groomed as Hosni Mubarak’s heir apparent and his brother Alaa was a wealthy businessman when Mubarak’s regime crumbled.
An Egyptian court has freed the sons of former Egyptian leader Mubarak. They are expected to walk free later on Monday.
Hosny Mubarak was ousted from power in February 2011 after 18 days of nationwide protests demanding his removal- two months later, his sons were detained.
The brothers were acquitted of the corruption charge, but last year they were sentenced to four years in prison – and their father to three years – after being found guilty of embezzling millions of dollars of state funds.
They were fined that same amount plus an extra 21mn pounds.
During Mubarak’s reign, his youngest son and one-time investment banker Gamal climbed the political ladder to head the powerful policies committee of his father’s National Democratic Party.
Their father remains in a military hospital.
His sons, both in their early 50s, still face a separate trial for alleged stock market manipulation.
In May, a court sentenced the trio to three years in prison each for having embezzled 125-million Egyptian pounds ($16m) from funds that were meant for the maintenance of presidential palaces.

The judge in the case said Mubarak should never be tried for these charges.
