Though the list is quite extensive, a few of the fundamental items include food offerings such as grains, curd, honey and much more as well as water offerings and certain specified Puja items like leaves and powders. Residents, who have been preparing for the festival for over a week, celebrated the Day-1 of the 9-day festival with enthusiasm. Just like the other Indian festivals, the festival of Navratri also has a special meaning and significance. Next 9 days starting from tomorrow are going to be only celebration of Navratri. There is a proper reason, meaning and significance behind each Hindu festival.

Durga takes up the form of “Katyayani” on the 6th day of navratri.

These days, the Durga Puja begins with the Mahishasuramardini which is a two hour radio program having been a popular tradition since the 1950s. Later on, a few people chipped in and formed a society to build the temple.
