Private plane crashes at Hopkins Airport during landing

Two people have died after a small merchant plane crashed at the Hammond airport shortly after takeoff Wednesday afternoon.

According to officials, the incident involved a private single-engine plane.

Airport officials said the nose wheel collapsed while landing.

The Hammond Star reported that both an ambulance helicopter and a representative of the Tangipahoa Parish coroner’s office were at the airport.

Two people are dead after a twin-engine Cessna 421 crashed at Hammond Northshore Regional Airport. Louisiana Department of Forestry helped to contain the fire by cleared trees.

NTSB investigators will be on the scene of the crash Thursday morning, spokesperson Terry Williams said.
