Joe Jonas & Charlie Puth appeared on Tues.’s Good Morning America to announce who was up for a gong in six classes, while a further 5 classes have been confirmed via the AMA’s official SnapChat.

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” was nominated for song of the year honors. But another big nominee making the list the year: The Weekend. Last yr Taylor Swift, One Direction, Selena Gomez & Lorde all put in show stopping performances. The nomination list will be narrowed to five by November. 11 through fan votes. Both had songs in the song of the year category: The Weeknd with “Can’t Feel My Face” and Sheeran with “Thinking Out Loud”. While we don’t predict that he will win, the inclusion of this acclaimed album (D’s first since 2000’s landmark “Voodoo”) suggests that the music industry’s top execs are paying attention to more than album sales; while “Black Messiah” sold hundreds of thousands in the United States, it hasn’t come close to Swift’s multi-platinum “1989”. “These measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound”. Winners are determined by fan votes on the show’s website or through Facebook and Twitter. More information on voting for these categories will be provided in the coming weeks.
