Empire Season 2 Episode 4 Recap: Alas, poor Vernon …

How far will the Lyon brothers go for Daddy’s love?

With this in mind, the plot of “Empire” episode four is a bit of a surprise. “Poor Yorik” references the dead jester in Hamlet whose skull is dug up.

Season two of Empire has already packed plenty of celebrity cameos into the first few episodes of the season: Swiss Beatz, Sean Cross, Rev. Al Sharpton, Andre Leon Talley, Pitbull and more.

Andre is still having nightmares about Vernon, and Rhonda is at her wit’s end, unsure of how to deal with it. I couldn’t believe how violent they got towards each other.

What were your thoughts on tonight’s episode of Empire? Man loves to talk about where he came from while he walks around in suits that cost more than my vehicle. But we do get to watch Jamal and Hakeem really come to blows, and hopefully things only escalate from there.

Meanwhile, Lucious tries to lure Hakeem away from Dynasty with a sick beat, a trick that (thankfully) Hakeem was smart enough to see coming from a mile away. Jamal is wearing a beret, because of course he is. Jamal is getting ready to be on the cover of Rolling Stone and Hakeem, without the guidance of his mother, throws a tantrum and stabs a painting before walking off the set. (Is he supposed to be imitating Andy Warhol or nah?) Hakeem, jealous and acting like a spoiled brat, TBH, slits painting-Jamal’s throat. Then he and Jamal get into a fistfight in the middle of the shoot.

As Lucious leaves Hakeem’s trailer, Cookie runs in, afraid that Lucious has tried to lure Hakeem back to Empire. Lucious responds ‘Son, I promise you with every ounce of my soul, I could never lay a finger on that man’. “We’re in this together.” Aw. Lucky for him, a performer (Jamila Velazquez) takes the stage and she might be just the girl he’s been looking for.

Andre (Trai Byers) goes to see Lucious again to ask him to come back to Empire. Sure, she says, she knows Anika is telling the truth and Lucious is lying about wanting Anika to steal Cookie’s masters, but Cookie simply can’t trust Boo Boo. A giddy Roxanne promises to dig deeper into the merger – essentially rendering it dead in the water – and the vibe is so congenial that Cookie apologizes (!) and tells her her weave is “nice”.

The oldest Lyon tells his pregnant wife Rhonda that after speaking with the higher power he has decided he should dig up Vernon on the latest episode of “Empire.”

Lucious fully aware of the situation realizes that the answer to his problems is finding Vernon and finally putting him out of sight. She gets in the auto and Vernon’s decaying body is in the passenger seat.

“Hey there, baby. Look wherever you like”.

“Why you slithering around my son?” Ever the mindful one, as she was being shoved into the back of a squad vehicle, she yelled for Porsha to call her lawyer and declared that if she died while in police custody, it was not suicide. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Did I mention he drops waayyyyy obvi double-entendres like “I wanna be inside you” and “God you’re gorgeous” to Jamal – right in front of a silent, seething Michael.
