Airbnb hosts Halloween night in catacombs of Paris

The night includes a dinner, a real bed, and even a private concert.

While sourcing a few cheap and cheerful accommodation in the city of lights around Valentine’s Day is nigh-on impossible, for the amorous macabre types looking to spend Halloween in Paris, Airbnb is offering a one-of-a-kind night in one of the city’s creepiest attractions.

On their website Airbnb say: “Before bedtime, a storyteller will have you spellbound with fascinating tales from the catacombs, guaranteed to produce nightmares”. “Finally, enjoy dawn with the dead, as you become the only living person to ever wake up in the Paris catacombs”.

According to The Guardian, the website paid around €350,000 for access to the tunnels, which it warns the winners to respect as they would their own graves.

Located south of the former city gate, the Catacombs of Paris contain the remains of millions of Parisians transferred there gradually between the late eighteenth and mid-nineteenth centuries as City graveyards were closed due to public health risks.

Elsewhere, visitors are advised: “Think in the morning that you might not survive until the evening, and in the evening that you might survive until the morning”.

If you want a chance to compete, those interested have to enter the contest before midnight on October. 20, telling Airbnb why you should be chosen in 100 words or less.
