Japan end RWC with win over US

At present, the rules governing player eligibility must satisfy one of seven stipulations, including the controversial residency rule, which allows players to represent countries where they have lived for just three years. It would not matter if we went out to play in a pink jersey, now people would recognise the Japanese style of play.

“From high school, into university and even in the Top League teams, they don’t train to perform at a high level, they train to be disciplined, they train to be obedient, and therefore they don’t learn the game”. Forget about what happens after this week, the final is this weekend.

The little guys have come good big-time in England and helped make the 2015 Rugby World Cup a truly special one. “I have played 11 or 12 times against the All Blacks, and not once we have been favorites”. Whether that person chooses to play rugby later on in life, or whatever, it is more of a case of what the All Blacks represent to New Zealand society and the history that has gone along with the team, and the stories.

Goromaru opened the second-half scoring through another successful penalty as Japan began to pull away, and, although the United States’ forwards continued working hard at close quarters, they lacked the fluency required to break down a well-organised defence.

“We talked how we can go to 2019 and how we present ourselves back in the country”. With another match on the cards against the US who are at the bottom of the table, Japan looks as they would get the team of the tournament.

Most of the blame so far has been directed at coach Stuart Lancaster for selecting inexperienced players and sticking to a conservative game plan. And because of that, the aftermath is going to go one of two ways.

The Tonga team were also popular with locals – and became Exeter’s adopted team, because they were based in the city and were often seen out and about in town. They have been the ones who’ve kept things interesting in what otherwise may have turned into a fairly drab affair.

World Rugby’s chief executive, Brett Gosper, said no decision had been taken on when to conduct the draw for Japan but also warned “we don’t want to go in the market in phasing terms when we are up against the Olympics in a ticketing sense”.

He said of his own legacy: “The result of the World Cup is not about me, it’s about the players”. But their mothers or fathers, their aunties or their uncles or their friends do, and they tell them.

“Our older rugby players were truly privileged to attend a training session with the six coaches from the Japanese team, including head coach Eddie Jones”. “You know to win a game like that when you’re not at your best was a really good effort, full credit to Leitchie and the boys”, Jones added.

Expect more to come, and not just from Ireland and Wales. I’ve got no regrets.

The attendance record for any World Cup match was broken by two huge crowds at London’s Wembley Stadium, England’s football home, with 89,019 piling in for New Zealand’s win against Argentina before 89,267 witnessed Ireland’s victory over Romania.

When Greig Laidlaw's Scotland take on Australia in their World Cup quarter-final they have nothing to lose
