The Houston Astros take on the Kansas City Royals one final time today as the two teams enter the deciding Game 5 of their American League Divisional Series baseball playoff contest, tied up at two games apiece after having alternated wins all series.
Like the two teams that play in the game preceding this one, Kansas City will turn to its Game 2 starter, Johnny Cueto. They went 33-48 in road games with the offensive production dipping 60 OPS points.
In elimination games, all hands will be on deck for both teams, and each starting pitcher will be given a short leash that will be pulled quickly at any sign of trouble. Brought in to be the ace that they Royals were considered to need in order to win the World Series, Cueto was supposed to be the answer for the big moment. He put Houston on top with an RBI double in the fifth and became the youngest player with a multihomer game in AL playoff history with a two-run shot off Ryan Madson in the seventh for a 6-2 lead. In the 14.2 posteseason innings that Cueto has pitched, he has posted a 0-2 record with a 5.52 ERA and a 1.705 WHiP.
Royals manager Ned Yost said the Royals battled the flu in September and he was going to let it run its course.
