“How slow?” is the question for several Windows users. A possible reason for this could be that Win XP users wouldn’t be able to upgrade to the much awaited Windows 10.
Microsoft’s Terry Myerson, the executive in charge of Windows, wrote in a company blog on Thursday that “on July 29, we will start rolling out Windows 10 to our Windows Insiders”.
Just like for our consumer customers, we’ll continue to introduce new features and updates in an ongoing manner, including Enterprise Data Protection later this year.
On July 29, customers may see new device boxes on retail shelves with a Windows 8.1 installation.
If you’re not signed up for the Windows Insider program, register now, check out the system requirements, and then follow the instructions.
“We want to make sure all of you have a great upgrade experience, so we’ll roll-out Windows 10 in phases to help manage the demand”, Myerson said. The company is hoping to win back some of the people turned off by Windows 8, particularly in the desktop demographic. Other’s opted to not reserve their copy. While there aren’t any new capabilities included in this build, it’s supposed to feature “better reliability, performance, battery life, and compatibility than any Windows 10 Insider Preview build so far”. Only after reservations have been completed will those who haven’t reserved get their free upgrade, it seems. Not just any wallpaper either, but the highly anticipated Windows 10 default background, also known as Hero. The wi-fi support allows Windows 10 devices to connect to internet hotspots in the world, fast.
Windows 7, however, still has a tremendous lead over both its predecessor and immediate successor, with almost half of all users running the OS. Hot on its heels though was build 10159, which in addition to more fixes (over 300 of them!), took in one very interesting change. For example, Microsoft’s new Windows Hello login system relies on hardware that even most Windows 8 PCs will not have. But when the big day rolls out, which version should you opt for?
