‘Blindspot’: Patterson Solves Another Tattoo Mystery (Sneak Peek)

Note: the information below does contain spoilers for the first few episodes of the series.

Each week, another tattoo plays a role in foiling national security threats and brings us closer to understanding Taylor’s mission. This is the type of show that makes you feel like a moron when you try to explain it to someone who doesn’t watch it, and a show like that has a small margin for error. But it doesn’t answer why her body was left on the FBI’s doorstep covered with tattoo clues. Weller is the most respected Federal Bureau of Investigation agent in that building but when he is around Jane, his perception and focus are thrown out the window. “A Stray Howl” suggested each clue would lead the team to the next clue, like an actual treasure map, a comparison every character in the show has used at least once. They have a very deep and powerful emotional connection – and they’re both very good-looking people, so you never know. It’s a shame, too, considering how exciting and action-packed last week’s episode was, whereas this week’s installment had a surprisingly boring tattoo mystery-of-the-week plotline and Jane Doe’s identity is back to being more mysterious than ever. Meanwhile, Jane (Jaimie Alexander) and Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) grow closer. But after weeks of chastising her for refusing to stay in the auto when instructed, Weller is finally ready to welcome Jane as an equity partner on his team. It’s an uncomfortably random development, and it colors outside the lines in a way the show simply shouldn’t be doing this early on.

As to Mayfair, well at the conclusion of last week’s show, she was revealed to be someone who has knowledge of what’s behind all the tattoo clues on Taylor’s body. That said, I am intrigued by the reveal that Jane might not be Taylor Shaw after all. According to Patterson, both results are conclusive, but only one of them can be true. With an audience of mostly New Yorkers, the panel fielded questions about filming in the boroughs.

For those that aren’t up to speed on the series, Taylor has little to no memory of anything that occurred in her life prior to her getting out of the duffel bag.

I also dug Patterson’s boyfriend David (Joe Dinicol) this week, who did more with his three minutes of screen time than pretty much the whole cast did in these first four episodes (sans Patterson).
