Right behind Swift, with five nominations each, were The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran.

Niall Horan leads the way as One Direction has been nominated for the prestigious Artist of the Year award. She was also nominated for collaboration of the year for “Bad Blood”, and her album 1989 is up alongside Sheeran’s X and Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour.

If Taylor wins all six categories, she will eclipse the late Whitney Houston as the AMAs’ most decorated artist.

Alongside The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face”, Khalifa’s “See You Again”, and Ronson’s “Uptown Funk”, Swift’s “Blank Space” and Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”, all have been nominated for Song of the Year. Sam Hunt, Minaj, Smith, Trainor and band Walk the Moon each earned three nominations each for an award this year.

In her young career, Swift, 25, has already won 16 AMAs since 2008, including artist of the year in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

Luke Bryan is an Artist of the Year nominee. Michael Jackson’s 24 awards are the most of any artist.

The announcement of nominees comes just days after it was revealed that Jennifer Lopez would be hosting the biggest fan-voted award show. The AMAs, which were created by Dick Clark in 1973, based the nominations on “key fan interactions as reflected in Billboard Magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring”, according to a statement. New artist nominees are Hunt, Fetty Wap, Tove Lo, Walk the Moon and the Weeknd.
