Just-released lab results from the State Medical Examiner’s Office indicate Sash died “due to an accidental mixed drug toxicity involving methadone and hydrocodone”.

Tests will be conducted on his brain, according to the Associated Press, to determine whether he had signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, the degenerative brain disease that so many former National Football League players have suffered from.
The report goes on to say “a recent shoulder dislocation and a history of chronic shoulder pain were also significant conditions”.
The results of the additional tests will be available in eight to 12 months, per the Medical Examiner’s office, via the AP.
Sash was found dead in his home on September 8.
He was suspended for the first four games of the 2012 season after testing positive for Adderall, though he said he had a prescription for the drug and didn’t know it was on the NFL’s list of banned substances.
The Giants cut him before the start of the 2013 season, reaching an injury settlement after he suffered a concussion in a pre-season game against the New England Patriots.
A month after the death of Tyler Sash, an autopsy determined that the former Iowa standout died from an accidental overdose. On October 13, the Iowa Department of Public Health said that an autopsy revealed the cause of death.

He later pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined $65.
