Sikh protestors clash with police; 15 injured

The Sikh protestors were up in arms against the desecration of a holy book in Bargari village, 15 km from Kotkapura. The pages were allegedly torn from a copy of the Guru Granth Sahib that was stolen from Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village in June.
Police lathi-charged Sikh groups who were protesting against the alleged desecration of a religious book at Moga on Wednesday.
Condemning the incident, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said in a statement on Tuesday that nobody would be allowed to disturb the hard earned peace and communal harmony of the state.

Amritsar: Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said the killing of protesters in Kotkapura was an administrative lapse which aggravated the already tense situation. “Then they started firing at the protesters and the bullets hit three persons”, said protester Gurnam Singh. Heavy police force has been deployed to maintain law and order in Faridkot, Moga, Mansa, Bathinda and Sangrur districts. “The administration reportedly called three buses to take the protesters to jail but instead of taking them to the jail the police dropped them in remote villages”, reported Paramjeet Singh of Sikh Siyasat. “But no action was taken against the accused”. The protesters blocked the Moga-Barnala road and later attacked the police.
