Chip Kelly Commented On Speculation Surrounding USC Coaching Vacancy

Kelly said he is invested long-term with the Eagles and wants to get to a place where there is no more speculation surrounding him. I answered it the same way my first year here. And with Steve Spurrier’s sudden resignation, South Carolina is looking for a new head coach, though it is not clear if Kelly would coach in the SEC.

There has never once been any concrete information to emerge that Kelly has any interest in heading back to coach another college program.

“It’s an unfortunate part of the game”. “That’s my guess. I don’t think they’re-I don’t think Jason Kelce is really concerned because my name came up with a college”. This time, he seemed angrier when asked about it. Kelly denied that USC or any other school contacted him or his agent.

Kelly said his only thought on those jobs is for Sarkisian, who coached against Kelly from 2009 through 2012, when Sarkisian was at Washington and Kelly at Oregon.

Kelly said he understands that the speculation is going to occur every time a major college job is available.

“Just keep asking questions about that and the press conference will be over quicker”, Kelly said. A friend of mine, Steve Sarkisian, is dealing with a big issue and I wish him the best with the whole thing. “Let’s talk about another college. That’s how I look at it, with that situation”.

Following a whirlwind offseason that saw numerous Eagles’ star players leave town, the first quarter of the National Football League season has been a trying one for Kelly’s bunch.

Kelly doesn’t think the speculation distracts the players or undermines his credibility with his players. “I mean, he’s concerned about going against [Giants defensive coordinator] Steve Spagnuolo’s defense, which is what’s first and foremost on our team right now”.
