Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie’s campaign has raised $4.2 million for his White House bid. But he fell behind Trump in the poll this summer.

A new poll out today shows that Christie is deeply unpopular, with his overall approval rating in New Jersey standing at 39 percent and his popularity among Republican primary voters in his state virtually nonexistent.

Republicans are also giving up on “Christie for President”, with only 41 percent saying he should keep running, against 54 percent saying he should call it a day. With just 5 percent of Republican voters naming him, Christie now trails Ben Carson and Florida Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has 6% of support and former tech CEO Carly Fiorina takes 5%. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders had 19 percent, and Vice President Biden – who has not entered the race – 10 percent.

Four other presidential contenders now fill the gap between Trump and Christie, with results mimicking those of national surveys.

A campaign spokeswoman says documents due Thursday will show the New Jersey governor’s campaign has spent $2.8 million in the last three months.

“The voters who know him best blame not his competition but what Christie himself is doing – or not doing – for New Jersey”, Ashley Koning, assistant director of the Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling, said in a statement. That’s down from the 12% he enjoyed in the poll’s August survey of registered Republican voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points. The GOP subsample of 273 voters has a margin of error of +/-6.6 percentage points, while the subsample of 367 Democrats is +/- 5.7 percentage points.
