Dodge Viper Could Disappear in 2017 Following Plant Shutdown
The 650-horsepower Dodge Viper was introduced in 1992 with a $50,700 price tag, the equivalent of $86,130 in today’s dollars. There is a large display area where the cars which have already been built wait to be shipped out.

Our worst fears have begun to materialize, as details are emerging surrounding the oncoming death of the beloved Dodge Viper. There is tons of space that is not used for production and when production space isn’t being used for a few aspect of the production process, it isn’t making money in the way that it was intended. Dodge only sold 760 Vipers in 2014, and has sold 503 through September of this year.
Following the price slash past year, the Viper has received a few more updates as of late, including adding a new GTC model that offers endless customization of paint colors and other visuals. If true, it’s a sad day for American performance cars. With the plans of the Detroit plant shutting down in 2017, the chance of the Dodge Viper going under is high. Back then the company sold 20 “final editions” of the Viper just months before Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler, showed off a new version of the sports vehicle at a dealer conference.
The United Auto Workers union representing employees at numerous automotive plants in the United States is now in negotiations with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles [NYSE:FCAU], with the two parties having recently reached a tentative agreement dealing mostly with the increased allowance of lower-paid temporary staff.

Right now, only time will tell, but those folks who have been saving up to buy a brand new Dodge Viper might want to make that purchase in the next 2 years, just to be safe.
