Is ‘The Walking Dead’ starting to stagger?

Like “American Idol”, which saw its ratings grow five consecutive seasons, “The Walking Dead” – by far the biggest show shot in metro Atlanta – finally hit a wall with its season six debut this past Sunday.

Again, the most innovative facet of this premiere is the quick-cuts that Nicotero employs between flashback and reality (although the “flashbacks” still pick up after season five’s finale “Conquer”). Last night’s audience of 877K viewers is also a new series high for The Walking Dead and is FOX UK’s highest ever overnight audience since they launched in the United Kingdom more than a decade ago. Rick, Carol, Michonne, Morgan and others have a handful of problems to deal with as the town has erupted in chaos with the zombies walking in. It seemed like more than a coincidence that the old crew fell to the back burner while Rick’s reckless demeanor was gently prodded by the ignorance of randomly added character Carter (Ethan Embry) and returning fan-favorite Morgan Jones (Lennie James).

It also sounds very ominous and, according to the ending of Episode 1, Rick and fellow survivors will be facing something more deadly than the zombies. And guess what? The zombie parade worked. “And only Rick’s badass group could have ‘done it live” like they had to when that one truck fell down into the pit and released Walkerpalooza”, reads a roundup of the episode by IGN.

“We took sort of a rather bold move because we wanted to play with our non-linear timeline”, said Nicotero. For those who may be wondering if they will see fewer of the antagonists as they can not swim or walk on water, he assured that “there will be plenty of zombies to be had”. “The huge amount of positive reviews within just the first days confirms we have succeeded in creating a attractive game that resonates with gamers and “The Walking Dead’ fans alike”.
