Oscar Pistorius to be released from jail on Oct. 20

Pistorius fired four shots through the closed door of his bathroom, which instantly killed Reeva Steenkamp, whom he said he mistook for an intruder.

The parole board had ordered Pistorius’ release in August, but the decision was overturned by Corrections Minister Michael Masutha and was later set aside by the Parole Review Board.

The conditions of Pistorius’s release from prison include continued psychotherapy and prohibitions in line with the Fire Arms Control Act, the prisons department said in an e-mailed statement.

“We have now been informed that Oscar will be released into correctional supervision on the 20th of October”.

Pistorius’ family have complained that the athlete was not being treated fairly because of media attention surrounding his release date.

The announcement of parole was met with indifference by Steenkamp’s family, citing that this or any other action that the South African justice system may take will not bring their loved one back.

The spokeswoman for Barry and June Steenkamp confirmed they had received a call from the parole board notifying them of their decision to released Pistorius.

Jailed paralympian was sent to prison for shooting dead his girlfriend in 2013 on October 20.

Pistorious became a global celebrity after representing South Africa at both the Olympics and Paralympics in London in 2012.

The 28-year-old will stay with his uncle in an upscale home in Pretoria as he serves out the rest of his term which ends on October. 20, 2019.

He was convicted of culpable homicide, the equivalent of manslaughter, last September after a seven-month trial. In a statement issues by their attorney, the state of Pistorius’ freedom holds little value to them.

Pistorius, nicknamed the Blade Runner, rose to fame as a sprinter with prosthetic legs.
