Rams lose Saffold with season-ending shoulder surgery
With Thursday’s announcement that right guard Rodger Saffold will be undergoing season-ending surgery, Reynolds will move into the starting lineup when the Rams host the Cleveland Browns on October 25. The offensive lineman will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder – the shoulder not repaired this past offseason.

Coach Jeff Fisher said Saffold received a second opinion on his latest injury and doctors agreed surgery was necessary. Additionally, the Rams still have $3 million of Saffold’s original $5 million signing bonus scheduled to count against the cap in $1 million increments over the next three years.
Rams tight end Lance Lance Kendricks had surgery Monday to fix a torn ligament in his thumb, Myles Simmons of stlouisrams.com reports.
Tight end Justice Cunningham, who had been on the practice squad, was elevated to the active roster.
“You’ve got to go back in there and get used to how you communicate and things like that”, Barnes said. “His return to play and to 100 percent is estimated somewhere in February or March, so he’ll have a good offseason”. He may be back for Cleveland.
“Once we got both opinions together, he was willing to try to play, but inevitably it’s going to come out again when you’re talking about the condition of the shoulder”, Fisher said. (T) Darrell (Williams) will be up getting the work as the potential backup left tackle.
“We worked on it a lot today, just because it was so obvious that teams have noticed we’ve struggled with it and if we don’t fix it it’s going to continue to happen”, Robinson said. “Darrell understands what he’s doing and had a good week of work this week, so he can come ready to play”.
The 6-foot-7, 305-pound Reynolds, in his seventh season overall and first with St. Louis, has played both tackle and guard in his career and started 27 of a possible 57 games with the Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions and Rams. We can make a case that the record should be better than it is.
They’re using the bye week to help figure out what to do. “Once you stop them, they’ll stop gaming us”. We got them in there with our stuff. “It was impressive. We’ve got our work cut out”. “It’s where it is right now and we have to focus on the next opponent”. It’s getting the younger players the much needed reps. “If we could have eliminated those two explosive plays, there is no telling what the outcome might have been”. We waited through the bye week. Those are kind of the hidden things that take place that aren’t often talked about.
With Saffold out, veteran Garrett Reynolds will step in at right guard. Reynolds played 52 of the 73 snaps.

“You can’t give up explosive plays against the best in the business right now”, Johnson said. So, I was fine with the way he played. “He was a settling factor and was cutting people downfield and finishing plays”.
