Highlighting controversies linked with Narendra Modi when he was Gujarat Chief Minister, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday dubbed the former’s comments on the Dadri lynching case and the cancellation of Ghulam Ali concert as his “perception”, but not his “personal opinion”. It was encouraging to learn that PM Modi did not approve of the opposition to Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali’s concert in Mumbai.
“The opposition parties are highlighting these incidents and accusing the BJP of communalism, but in doing so, are they not themselves practising the politics of polarisation?”
The Indian prime minister also said that he and his party are against what he called pseudo secularism practiced by the opposition Congress. The whole incident took place due to the rumours that he along with his family had beef in the Bishada village of Uttar Pradesh. Unfortunately, the secularists will lose their “roji-roti” should the Muslims come to abandon their ingrained suspicion and distrust of the BJP.
We need to credit Modi for having directly addressed the Dadri lynching episode during a newspaper interview and terming the tragedy as “unfortunate and unwarranted”. “The only way to solve this is through dialogue”.
The Prime Minister also took a swipe at the opposition and said that they are trying to polarise the nation by holding the BJP-led government responsibile but that the ruling party doesn’t support these kind of incidents. “Why is he instead levelling political charges on other parties”, he asked.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Jammu and Kashmir early next month for the two-day visit. “The Prime Minister saying the government has nothing to do with the incident is a dereliction of duty as he is the PM and has the mandate to uphold constitutional values”, CPI MP D. Raja said.
Taking on the Opposition, the Prime Minister accused them of playing the politics of polarisation.
