Dan Callaghan ‘probably deserved’ sacking on The Apprentice

The highly anticipated first episode of The Apprentice aired on BBC One on Wednesday night – and it didn’t disappoint. Why would I? (Solomon) was a disgrace. He came to the interview with pictures of sailboats.

‘My family have experienced a lot of difficulties with my business, which they’ve invested money in. When running a business you need to strike the right balance; delegating where possible, being decisive when necessary, and you should always listen to employee’s (or in this case team members’) feedback and concerns.

For me, Connexus got off lightly with Lord Sugar with their salad pricing. “When I started my business, I loaded the lorries, I designed the product, I stood on the production line …”

A businesswoman who says “she does not like anyone to be better than her” has appeared in the latest series of The Apprentice.

I’ve never really thought about it [laughs].

Step forward 18 new candidates hoping for a £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar.

Age: 28 Sample quote: “I pride myself on not having any negative or bad traits about myself, they’re all good, they’re all positive”. During “The Apprentice 2015” premier however, they would start off with the basics. If they said hello to me, I ignored them.

“I’m not trying to be their be their friend, I’m trying to just do the job I’m entitled to do which is to observe them and report back”. He said remarkably little, though he did confess that, compared to assistants Karren Brady and Claude Littner, he has the easy job as he doesn’t have to follow the candidates around London.

Littner has first-hand experience of being ignored at work. So what’s the truth?

“I think you see all sorts of people from all walks of life who just break through”, he says.

“He was testing me”.

“If someone tells me they’ve done something I think to myself that I must have done something better than that. It was terrifying, but looking back it was quite amusing”, Dan said.

Although he credits Sugar as being “outstanding” and somebody he “admires”, he admits he was perplexed by the approach.

“Everything we’ve gone through he’s been through it ten times so he can give you really good advice and teach you lessons that you were going to learn”.

“I don’t know what perceptions people have about him, but he’s very direct, he’s very straight, very clever and astute and he doesn’t like – to put it in his words – bull****ers”. I know my weaknesses. The fact of the matter is you can’t sustain a different personality for 12 weeks because the real you will come out at a few point and then you’ll look like a real muppet for pretending to be someone you’re not. “I’m not that bothered”.

Throughout the task, Kasim was called dictatorial by her team, which she felt was “unnecessary” but agreed “maybe I was a bit too firm”.

“But Dan, you say that purchasing is all down to me, and you were the only one who didn’t sell anything”.
