UEFA president Michel Platini has announced he will appeal the Ethics Committee’s decision to suspend him for 90 days.

UEFA President Michel Platini has denied any wrongdoing in accepting a $2million payment from Federation Internationale de Football Association i …

Makudi was a member of the Federation Internationale de Football Association executive committee (known as the “Ex-co”) that voted controversially in December 2010 to award host nation status for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup tournaments to Russia and Qatar, respectively.

The Football Association of Thailand on Tuesday said it would postpone this weekend’s election of a new chief, a day after the incumbent Worawi Makudi was suspended by a FIFA ethics probe.

FIFA’s ethics watchdog today banned Thai football chief and former FIFA executive member Worawi Makudi for 90 days for an ethics breach and indicated he could face further punishment.

“The adjudicatory chamber of the ethics committee, chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert, has suspended Worawi Makudi… from all football activities at national and global level for 90 days”, FIFA said in a statement. He is due to leave office on February 26.

Platini, the front runner to succeed Blatter, is also appealing against his ban. This payment, “at the expense of FIFA”, was allegedly for work performed between January 1999 and June 2002.

European football’s ruling body is holding crisis talks Thursday to discuss Platini’s plight followed by a press conference.

“I’m reflecting on a number of scenarios including putting forward my candidature”, the 56-year-old Swiss lawyer told AFP. Blatter is accused of signing a TV rights deal for the 2006 and 2010 World Cups with former FIFA official Jack Warner that caused financial losses to world football’s governing body.

A third meeting is planned after which it will present its proposals to overhaul the sleaze-tainted organisation.
