“We’re proud to have Oman Air join our growing base of 787 customers in the Middle East and around the world”, said Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Ray Conner.
Shares of The Boeing Company (BA – Get Report) were gaining 2.3% to $137.29 on Thursday following the announcement that EVA Airways will purchase up to 26 widebody airplanes from the aerospace company.
Boeing said that EVA Airways was updating its long-haul fleet and the new airplanes will allow it to expand into new markets, particularly in Southeast Asia, Oceania and North America. The 777-300ER is the backbone of EVA Airways’ fleet and the carrier is the world’s eighth largest operator of the 777-300ER aircraft as well as the fourth largest in Asia.
At present, EVA operates 35 of Boeing’s airplanes, which include leased and directly purchased airplanes.
“This certainly shows confidence in Boeing South Carolina when a major blue-chip customers opts for the 787-10”, said Saj Ahmad, chief analyst for Strategic Aero Research.

Boeing has also been contracted by Oman Air for a suite of services to support the upcoming entry into service of its 787 Dreamliners and to ensure ongoing efficiency and cost savings for its fleet. The 787-10 will be 25 percent better in fuel and emissions than the airplanes it replaces and more than 10 percent better than anything offered by the competition for the future.
