Pepsi-Cola to Release First Smartphone in China

The Pepsi brand with that red and blue yin-yang-like logo will invade the mobile phones market – but it won’t manufacture its own smartphone products.

We recently had the chance to present you the leaked information regarding PepsiCo China’s plans about releasing a smartphone named P1.

“Available in China only, this effort is similar to recent globally licensed Pepsi products which include apparel and accessories”, the spokesperson said.

PepsiCo’s licensing partner has not been revealed in the statement, and no other details about the upcoming smartphone were mentioned, the report adds. 9 by tech blogging site Mobipicker.

At the time, there was an actual Pepsi Phone Weibo page which now does not exist.

It will run on a 1.7Ghz MT6592 SoC processor with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage capacity. PepsiCo spokeswoman Aurora Gonzalez said, “We are pleased to share that Pepsi is working with a licensing partner to bring a line of mobile phones and accessories to market in China in the next few months”. It does have a decent 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras, all backed by a 3000 mAh battery.

The soft drink giant’s Chinese arm is expected to announce a the smartphone, called the P1, as early as October 20th, Mobipicker reports.

The page also referenced China’s Shenzhen Technology Co., which now works with companies like Konica Minolta, Brother Industries and Xiaomi.
