Del Toro says killing Silent Hills ‘makes no f***ing sense’
The filmmaker’s bewilderment is certainly valid, especially since the publishing company gave no real reason as to why Silent Hills got the axe.

Unfortunately, Silent Hills won’t be seeing the light of day and one of the major players in the game is still flabbergasted about the entire situation.
During an interview with Bloody Disgusting about the film Crimson Peak, del Toro expressed his anger over Konami having canceled Silent Hills. Hooray for more quotations about this game that is cancelled. Guillermo revealed that the entire experience was “curious” and that it made no sense at all that the game was cancelled.
We had wonderful narrative sessions with hundreds upon hundreds of layouts and had an excellent experience.
“The thing with Kojima and Silent Hills is that I thought we would do a really remarkable game and really go for the jugular”, he said. Makes no fucking sense whatsoever.
In the eyes of del Toro, this sudden cancellation of such an incredible work makes absolutely no sense and is completely random. In fact, had Konami not pulled the plug on Silent Hills and not cut the budget on The Phantom Pain, things could be looking very different right now for Kojima Productions and Del Toro. “That’s the randomness that I was talking about”, he concluded. History has taught us that such a reboot will never materialize, with Konami opting to shut down the game early in development after it parted ways with esteemed Metal Gear developer Hideo Kojima.

Without a doubt, the combination Kojima and del Toro’s brilliance would have borne one of the most unique entries for the horror genre in years, especially considering that Japanese horror manga legend Junji Ito was also involved with the game.
