Pebble watches brings Nuance Voice Recognition to the public

Nuance is powering Pebble’s new Dictation API, allowing developers to create voice-friendly apps of all sorts for all of the 2nd-gen Pebble users in the wild. The same feature will be available to Android powered Pebble Time Round users starting on November 8th.

It is yet to be confirmed what kind of voice features are coming to Pebble apps, but the update should make the watch more useful going forward. And with the second half of Pebble’s big announcement on Thursday, October 15, the smartwatches could get a ton more voice support through the work of third parties.

Leveling the playing field between Google’s Android Wear devices and Pebble is Nuance who’s announced that they’ve officially partnered up with Pebble to bring their stellar voice recognition technology to the platform (and for the first time, voice dictation on iOS).

The addition of voice unlocks a world of possibilities for wearable devices, says Nuance Mobile’s Scott Taylor, senior vice president of devices. The press release issued by Nuance also mentions that Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel users with the Android version of the watches, can now dictate replies to emails and texts by using Nuance voice recognition. “We’re excited to see what developers build with this sweet new tool”.
